“You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”

—A. A. Milne

And maybe funnier than you know…

“How was your Bible Study?” Todd asked me this morning.

“Good. I’m supposed to laugh more. I don’t laugh enough.” I’ve been studying Matthew 11:28-30. It keeps coming up, I’d say two or three times a day over the last couple weeks.

“You’re very funny. You make me laugh all the time. It’s hard to laugh when you’re by yourself. What are you supposed to do? Make yourself laugh? ( Ha HA! he laughs.) Did you laugh with Deanna?”

“Yeah, we laugh all the time.”

“Did you laugh with Debrasha?”

“Yes. We always laugh.”

“You’re too hard on yourself.”

(Really?)

“You’re a very funny girl.” He walks upstairs saying, “Whimsy…”

I spend a lot of time alone these days. Writing. It’s easy to take yourself too seriously. Apparently. Have you ever heard God laugh? It’s one of those big bellowing blasts. Ha HA! I heard it this morning. It’s great. I’m sure it echoes throughout the galaxies.

Here is Matthew 11:28-30, a good verse to meditate on and memorize. “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (The Message)

I think it’s starting to take hold.

“You should never post from your phone,” Todd said. He’s right. But I always do. I accidentally hit Publish instead of Preview this morning. Sorry about that, friends, in case you saw that first messy post in your email. I’m trying to laugh about it…” haha…
